2009 Incoming Exchange From Freiburg, Germany

flag of australiaExchange Director - Christa Cloyd

The seven ambassadors from Freiburg, Germany learned a lot about Kansas, our history, and daily living in just one short week. At the welcome dinner, we knew immediately that we had new friends. A visit to the Kansas Cosmosphere was a good start, and visiting with an Amish farmer and his wife was equally impressive. We finished the day with a home-style dinner at a nearby restaurant. A visit of a typical Kansas farm in the middle of the wide open prairie with a variety of native grasses clearly told our visitors “this is Kansas”. The Oil and Art Museums in El Dorado were interesting to guests and hosts alike.
Also, we showed off our attractions in Wichita: Botanica, the Art Museum, the Aviation Museum, and Cowtown.  The Chuck Wagon Dinner and the concert by the Diamond W Wranglers provided a glimpse into the history of Wichita. Some of our guests were fascinated with the riding lawn movers we own and just had to try one out. At the farewell dinner, we were entertained by the German ambassadors  with German folksongs. Some of our club members then turned  all seven  into Wizard of OZ characters, and thus they became “honorary citizens of Kansas”. It was a wonderful week!
